# Fulfill Engine

> Print on demand production and fulfillment, end to end

Fulfill Engine prints and ships products for you. Instead of buying blanks,
decorating them and posting them, you sell the product and Fulfill Engine
produces each order.

Both models can run side by side in the same business, and even in the same
store.

## Connecting

In [Integrations](https://itemstores.com/app/settings/integrations), **Connect** opens
**Connect Fulfill Engine**, which asks for the **Account ID** and **API key**
from your Fulfill Engine account. Both are required.

Once connected, **Update** changes those credentials and **Disconnect** stops
orders being submitted. You can reconnect at any time.

A product is one or the other, never both.

## Importing a product

See [Print on demand](/help/knowledge-base/print-on-demand). Two things carry over to
everything below. The printing method is chosen at import and locked afterwards.
And every variant's retail price has to reach at least 110% of the Fulfill
Engine cost, or the import is refused, naming the color and size that failed.

<Warning>
  With no pricing rule attached, retail equals cost, so a first import is always
  refused. Attach at least one [pricing rule](/help/knowledge-base/pricing-rules) that
  marks prices up.

## Decorating

Fulfill Engine blanks decorate like any other, through the
[decoration tool](/help/knowledge-base/blanks/decorate) or by
[applying artwork](/help/knowledge-base/artwork/apply).

  Decoration method controls on the artwork side do not apply to Fulfill Engine
  products, because the method was set at import.

## Pricing

The **FE decoration upcharge** [pricing rule](/help/knowledge-base/pricing-rules) exists for
these products. It sets a per-location rate for each printing method, and each
decoration location on a product adds its rate per unit. The rule type only
appears in the list once Fulfill Engine is connected.

## What happens when an order arrives

Fulfill Engine produces and ships the order. You do not raise a purchase order
or a work order for those items, and you do not buy a label.

  Converting a [quote](/help/knowledge-base/quotes) that contains Fulfill Engine products
  submits them to Fulfill Engine for production **immediately**. Itemstores warns
  you first.

Orders containing Fulfill Engine items are badged **Fulfill Engine** in the
[orders list](/help/knowledge-base/orders), and **Fulfill Engine order failed** if
submitting them did not go through.

## Staying informed

[Notification preferences](/help/knowledge-base/settings/notifications) carry Fulfill Engine
events worth leaving on: an order submission failing, a product being
discontinued, and a product becoming available again.
